Ulrika Sommestad     Fägring stor    painting   May 3-24 2025

Opening Saturday May 3 at 12-16

“I work in different techniques; painting, graphics, drawing and glass mosaic. I paint mostly in acrylic or watercolor, using various mixed media, charcoal, pencil, oil crayons, percussion metal and car paint spray. I paint both representational and abstract, want to convey a mood or a feeling through color, shape, light and darkness.
I am inspired by nature on Gotland. For a while I painted martallas. Lately, I’ve been playing with perspectives, curious about other plant forms, like the Monstera. I have tried different formats, larger and smaller, and I am increasingly approaching the subjects in a way that makes the result almost abstract. In the spring of 2025, I started drawing tulips in their final phase and have come to paint them in different color and size. I think the tulip in its final stage is at its wildest, most beautiful and most vulnerable.
I also make unique mosaic tables, sometimes together with artists from the artist collective YTAdesign. The tables can have themes such as Monstera, Lemon, or Parrot.”
